Whose idea is this?

The idea of CE Groups came about after a number of conversations with folks in Sovereign King.  Our people were saying that they wanted more opportunities to spend time with each other, but not everyone was clamoring for a traditional Bible study.  So the question arose, “Would it possible for folks to get together in more intimate settings than Sunday worship to create and engage community?”  Well, there has to be a way out there some where; we just had to figure how to do it.  Thus, we have envisioned CE Groups.

What exactly are CE Groups?

CE Groups are gatherings of friends and members of the Sovereign King Community that meet regularly in an intimate setting to more personally fulfill the mission of creating and engaging community.

What will CE Groups look like?

For any that are interested, our community will be divided into smaller groups of families, couples, and singles.  One couple or family or single will be designated as the gatherer and a second will function as a backup/facilitator.  Each group will meet throughout a 12 week period at a pace agreed upon by the group.  At the end of 12 weeks, the groups will be reshuffled so that folks can get to know as many people as possible over the course of a year.

What will CE Groups do?

The hope is that throughout the 12 weeks, CE Groups will do 4 things.

Each group will be provided by Gordon with a Re:Set.  This will not be a traditional bible study.  Instead, Re:Set will be an opportunity for groups to consider and apply what is being discussed during the Sunday sermon series in new and unique ways.

Each group will have at least one Creating Community activity within their group that is purely social and fun.

Each group will have at least one Engaging Community activity that is purely service oriented to someone or something outside of the Sovereign King community.

Each group will find some way in which they can serve within their group.

When and how often will we meet?  What about my kids?

The design of CE Groups is that each group will decide these things for themselves.  Each group can determine the ideal time, place, and frequency of their get togethers as well as determine how to best care for the kids in their group.

Can you give us some examples of what we might do?

Creating Community examples might be: cookouts, picnics, movie nights, walks, dinners, art shows, etc.

Engaging Community examples might be serving together at a school, a shelter, a community center, doing something for the Garner Police Department, tutoring a child in the schools, etc.

Examples of serving folks within your group might be keeping a couple’s children so they can get a date, cutting someone’s grass, doing a home project, repairing someone’s car, etc.
