Shawn Stead is a young boy, 12 years of age, who lives in my community. Six months ago, he ventured out of the neighborhood on his scooter and was hit by an oncoming truck. I received a phone call from the Garner Police moments after the accident. They informed me that Shawn was on the way to the emergency room, and that the parents were leaving work and heading to the hospital. The officer urged me, "Gordon, you better get to the hospital because I don't know if Shawn is going to be alive when the parents get there." Now months later, Shawn is alive and well, but enduring the rigors of rehab. He is walking, talking and playing as if nothing ever happened.  Shawn's parents, Harry and Kristine, have been fantastic keeping their spirits up to encourage Shawn, but they are facing some incredible medical bills. We have tried to do several things to offset those bills for the Stead's and we invite you to partner with us.
  • If you would like to donate money to the Steads, contact us and we assist you in doing so (even helping you get tax credit).
  • Another effort we have undertaken is providing restaurant gift certificates to the Steads. Spending most of every day near the hospital for the past two months forces them to eat out a great deal, so these gift cards help offset costs as well. If you would like more information, or if you would like to donate, please email Gordon at jgordonduncan@yahoo.com. Thanks
